This is totally worth mentioning!

Front page of the BBC! Go AZ! Let's hope that these two can out do every serial killer that has come before them.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/5223944.stm

The only clue the police have so far is this sketch of him wearing a disguise. So basically, they have less than nothing. Actually, they know relatively more than they do about the other serial killer. They don't know if the shooter is even human. For all we know, it's a wolf.

I set this entry for a date 15 years in the future so that it stays atop as the most current entry in my journal and doesn't show up in your "friends" section.

I don't post in my journal anymore and only maintain it to view the few Livejournal groups that I fancy (Dodgers, Baseball, Explorer, Lost Glove, etc). I am else where on the internet now. Good day.

My car is "toast" as the mechanic put it. So, I need to buy a new car and I've got about $3500-4500 to spend for a downpayment or whatever. What should I get? I need some suggestions. I want something probably foreign, hybrid if possible, and possibly diesel as well!

I actually just wrote this for one person specifically, but since I think it's a good idea and I generally neglect my own entries here, I thought I could repost it to serve double-duty. Please feel free to comment with suggestions or opinions.

This comes from a post by [info]joyful_joyful (John Ryan Nelson):

tomorrow i will start the sign up sheet for a stinkweeds mixtape exchange. i completely ripped off the idea from the guys at eastside, but they weren't having much fun with it, considering me and two eastside employees were the only people that made tapes. there will be a theme for the mix tapes. at the beginning of the month the theme will be chosen and at the end of the month everybody will drop off their tapes and take somebody else's in exchange. i'm really excited about this.

You can read the entire entry here: bummer summer nights...

I asked about the details of the exchange and this is what he said:

the mix tape exchange is going on right now. the theme is "traveling" the songs need to have something in them about traveling or movement, etc. don't worry too much about the theme, just make the tape. the exchange will end at the end of september. e-mail me and i'll add you to the mailing list.

My reply--the reason I decided to update my journal with this very entry--was this:

About the theme of travelling, I was lying in bed and considering it, without really considering the specifics of your words, and came up with an idea of my own. What if the songs themselves don't contain words or superficial phrases/thoughts about traveling, but the overall idea of the tape itself is travelling and the selection of songs represent a macro view of this concept, rather than a micro one? I've also come up with an idea of a contrary tape or disc that can act as the antithesis of travelling and act as an accompanyment to the real tape/disc as a means of contrast.

Also, I was thinking about my friend Koji and how I may end up sending him a copy of this tape as well and I came up with a rather novel idea. What if instead of just a tape trade within Stinkweeds, I expanded the theme and concept to encompass a remote audience. The K phrase used for a comp "Remote Wing" sounds very appropos to me at the moment. The idea is that the tape trade is centered around 2 record stores, each one local to the person who is making the tape. Those that frequent Stinkweeds could make tapes for an audience at a similiar record store in Kyoto, Japan and they could do the same. I'm going to email my friend and ask what he thinks about this idea. It would be like a pen pal system but based around music as well as communication. We could have lists of people in Tempe and Kyoto who are interested in doing this and then mail the tapes off to eachother or to each record store and have them distributed there. This sounds really fun to me. I'm thinking that there is so much Japanese music that I like that I have only heard of because of Koji and there is certainly a wealth of American music or music that happens to find an American audience that Japan would surely love. What do you think? Maybe there could be a little bulletin board with our names and faces on polaroids and pictures of our exchange buddies. I'm very excited. I thought of this because I cannot sleep.

There is a WATERFALL right above my house. I have never in my life experienced a more spontaneous showing of torrential rain to such an exceeding magnitude. It was absolutely HELLACIOUS! In 2 minutes my street completely flooded and I motorboated at 50 miles an hour over speed bumps and streams. FUCK YEAH!

Two things. There's an interesting interview with famed and cult-idolized B-movie actor Bruce Campbell on Salon. Better yet is the link the Salon interviewer provides to an interview Tom Cruise and Speily did with a German publication recently. In my opinion, Tom Cruise comes off sounding like a blockhead.

"Shut up and act"
"Evil Dead" star Bruce Campbell discusses Tom Cruise, idiot film executives, his hilarious debut novel -- and the joys of not being famous.

If you know something in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area in celebration of Bastille Day (today, 14/7) my brother and I would really like to know. The sooner you can relay this information to me, the earlier we can celebrate. Thanks.

I wish parents understood that friends by proxy doesn't work. I may know a lot of dudes since I was a tiny lad, but that doesn't mean 22 years later I still want to know them.

"Is your friend gay?"
"No, why?"
"Because he seemed so happy."
"Yeah, he's a happy guy."
"Oh. Where I come from, we don't have many happy guys."

When driving through Northern California, remind me to steer clear of "Doomsville."

Friends by proxy of grandparents is quite another thing however. Grandparents--at least mine--know what's up.

Dear my legal minded watchdog friends (do I have any?),

If you are familiar with eminent domain and the Supreme Court's recent ruling on the issue (which greatly broadened the scope of the law), you may find this story rather hilarious!

Oh, one more update regarding Europe:

My brother and I watched a German National Football game just outside Wiesbaden, Germany in what we both believe must have been a Nazi sympathizing bar because there was a Nazi among the 8 of us watching the match on the pub's tiny television. Good ol' Rhineland.

Brief update from the airport of Lyon, France (the name means Lion in French--Wow!):

I'll be home sometime within the next 65 hours.
I didn't accomplish my goals of eating a truffle, a McDuck and McBier, or buying several Magnums of 3 Euro French wine which surprisingly costs $25+ in the U.S.
Neither my brother nor I were stabbed in Ireland, but we also stayed quite a fare distance between us and Limerick. I did, however, almost get clubbed over the head with a bottle of wine by a man named "Beaste Master" while in the Czech Republic. Picture a man of Slavic origins--Czech if you are creative enough--who has tattoos plastered down both his arms. One is made aware of these dark inked prison-esque images because the man is wearing a dirty tank top. He had a shaved head and looked as if he had just finished smashing something with a tire iron or breaking knee caps. His name was "Beast Master." Some old woman that was hanging around in the bank of the train station cafe came out towards where my brother and I were sitting. Apparently 10, 15, or 30 minutes of me sneezing, coughing, and blowing my noise in the fake plants (read "snot rockets") had finally gotten to her after I made a mess of my clothes. She started shouting and we took that as a cue to leave. It was obvious we didn't know what she was saying, though her demeanor was rather clear, so I tried make her think we were leaving because we had finished our cokes. As we walked towards the departure board Beast Master lurched out of his stoop in the back of the cafe and started following us. We ducked behind a billboard which seemed to work until we passed right in front of him in true Scooby-Do fashion. Needless to say, I'm fine, but I should have known better than to fuck around in the Eastern Bloc.

Where I've been so far save the details of course:

Phoenix --> Chicago --> London --> Frankfurt --> Hidleburg --> Paris --> Cinque Terra --> Salzburg --> Munich --> Hamburg --> Berlin --> Frankfurt

There will be details of course when I return on the 20th. My brother and I naturally have a shitload of pictures which document some of this trip.

Two questions:

1) How much do you think this set of books is worth?

2) How much would you be willing to pay for this collection?

"A complete set of Law Books, 48 volumes, American Jurisprudence by Bancroft-Whitney, 100% perfect condition, 1952 edition 1961 reprint, rich green cover with gold embossed letters."

Ok ok ok! So I seriously looked through about 1000 sets on www.eyeglasses.com and I think I like these the best of any frames I've seen. Are these bad larries a go or a no go?

Louis Lafont founded Lafont eyewear in a Paris boutique in 1923. Eighty years later, Lafont is well established with a reputation throughout the fashion world for refined products. The Lafont collection is known for its innovation and creativity. Lafont frames offer the wearer a style that is both sophisticated and classic. Shapes and colors are totally different from traditional standard frames. Lafont has a recognizable design and subtle colours.

Today, Laurence and Phillippe Lafont are the creators of this success. Laurence designs and creates the frame collections and Philippe manages the distribution network in France and abroad.

The sunglass collection, mostly in acetate, is true to the Lafont tradition. The chinese collection offers a more sophisticated concept and design.

For more information about Lafont eyewear, visit their website at www.lafont-paris.com.

I think these are the ones I got. The optometrist's office didn't have much to choose from. I feel like I got ripped. I'm trying to find glasses like Malcolm's, but I can't!

I need to get glasses tomorrow. Can you suggest a frame for me? I browsed www.eyeglasses.com last night and found some that were suitable. If you have a recommendation, please post a picture and tell me what exactly I'm looking for. Thank you. This is democracy in action.
